Essential Oils 101 | Favorite Oils, Best Brands, Must-Haves and More!

I am obsessed with essential oils – They are nature’s healers (for physical, mental and emotional pain). I swear by them and always keep a complete set in my house. But starting with essential oils can be overwhelming. There are so many brands, they come in every type, they can be really expensive, recipes always call for more than one … But fear not! I’m breaking down essential oils so that you know exactly what to look for, some of my favorite brands, and the essential oils that every home needs to be complete.

ALWAYS look for:
– The USDA organic seal
– An unadulterated scent
– And a dark glass bottle

If your oils don’t have all three, they may not be as pure or healthy as you need them to be.

I love Veraditas [] and Mountain Rose Herbs [] and can recommend both whole heartedly!

Have you ever tried out Guru Nanda Essential oils? I believe that you can enjoy any brand of essential oils as long as theyre good quality, and they fit your beliefs. Of course, i use some that are sustainable. I try to respect our Mother earth as much as possible.

Love MountainRose!! I’ve been buying from them, almost exclusively, for 3 years. They’re only 2 hours from me so lucky me, I’m going to their store next week. Side note: I’ve tried a few oils from an MLM company and got headaches. Never once had that from MountainRose. Hmm

Just started getting into EOs. A friend sells YL. Tried some from her. Loved that I could sleep! I’ve got insomnia issues as well as other health issues. Now that I’m researching more, I feel kinda silly that I spent so much on the oils w YL. And I’ve found out some pretty upsetting things about the founder… I hope the info is untrue. Anyway, you’ve made the most sense I’ve seen. Thank you!! -Dawn

Hi Sophie, since I live in the UK, sometimes it’s difficult to find USAD products, would you say Soil Associate Organic is equality good, or should I always buy USDA instead?

One thing that seems to be an unpopular opinion as well, but if you are using eo in candles, you CAN use a blend or synthetic oil. You aren’t going to get the benefits that you would from pure eo like you would from skin care. I have seen a very small population of the eo world recommend having a lesser quality/cost blend for candles and it has saved me tons of money in doing that. Both are going to have the same results for aromatherapy relative to relaxation

  16. Jessica Johnson on April 19, 2019 at 6:21 pm

My strong favorite is YL, though Veriditas is also very good. Though be mindful when comparing price—though Veriditas uses 5ml bottles, their more expensive oils, such as helichrysum or rose, actually contain much smaller amounts. The amount is listed on the bottle (small type), but unless you knew to expect it, or the shop assistant told you (mine didn’t know themselves), you won’t know. As the bottle are all the same size, you think V is a much better deal, but you’re getting sometimes less than half the product.

How to you feel about Young Living? I’ve heard they are the only ones you can get that are fully essential oils.

Do you have any opinions on the “Now” Line?

  25. Mystic Angel on April 19, 2019 at 6:28 pm

I find doterra a very expensive and over hyped brand. They charged £62 for a 15ml of Frankincense which is a complete joke.

  26. Maria Pinto on April 19, 2019 at 6:31 pm

Also can you give blend of essential oils for floral perfume

  41. CloudGal Makeup on April 19, 2019 at 6:48 pm

Hi, I’m completely new to essential oils, and I’m a stay at home mom so I’ve been trying to find oils that won’t break the bank. Anyways, my friend was telling me about a company called Jade Bloom and I don’t know if anyone has heard of them or knows if they are legit or not. I’ve purchased a few bottles from them, and their prices seem a little too good to be true. I’ve read a few bad reviews on them, but I can’t really find more than just a few bad reviews….I just want to make sure that the quality is good since I am using them for my children and family.

  42. Rebel Lash & Beauty on April 19, 2019 at 6:49 pm

I am loyal to Mountain Rose. They are so pure but ethics is also paramount. Worth every penny and I have compared their oils side-by-side to Doterra and Young Living
